We clear land in Westford for builders preparing a home site, homeowners opening up a yard or driveway, and landowners reclaiming a wooded or overgrown parcel. Track loaders, a mini excavator and a grapple handle trees, brush and stumps, and our trucks and trailers haul the debris away.

Call our Massachusetts line at (978) 696-6659 or use Get a Quote with the address, photos and any plot plan. Westford has more than 2,100 acres of town conservation land and dozens of conservation restrictions, so tell us if your parcel touches town land, a brook or a wet area.

What Shapes a Land Clearing Project in Westford

Westford clearing jobs are shaped by conservation land, brooks and road frontage more than by lot size.

Town conservation land and restrictions

The Conservation Commission manages more than 2,100 acres of town land and oversees 67 permanent Conservation Restrictions. A parcel next to town land needs its boundary respected, and a parcel with a restriction on its deed may limit what can be cleared. Check your deed and survey before we mobilize.

A wetlands bylaw older than most subdivisions

Westford's Wetland Protection Bylaw dates to 1987. The Commission reviews work that alters or develops land within 100 feet of wetland resource areas and within 200 feet of perennial streams. The bylaw also bars dumping, filling and septic systems near wetlands without its permission, which matters when cleared lots are graded for a house.

Habitat and vernal pools near Nashoba Brook

The town says most of the Nashoba Brook conservation land is mapped as Priority Habitat for Rare and Endangered Species and holds numerous certified vernal pools. Lots near it are worth a call to the Commission before clearing, because pools and habitat can change where and when machines work.

Frontage on scenic roads

Ten Westford roads are designated scenic, including Chamberlain Road, Stony Brook Road and Old Lowell Road. Cutting trees or altering stone walls in the right of way on those roads goes through the Planning Board, so a new driveway cut is planned with that hearing in mind.

Land that has been dug before

Kennedy Pond, near Concord Road, is a 20-acre dug pond left from former sand and gravel operations. Wooded lots with a history of digging can hide old pits or fill, so tell us what you know about the lot and we walk it before pricing.

Permits That Can Apply to Land Clearing in Westford

Clearing a dry, upland lot usually needs no wetlands filing. Water, conservation land and road frontage are what bring rules into play.

Wetlands. The Wetlands Protection Act, MGL c.131 §40 (opens in a new tab), requires written notice to the conservation commission before removing, filling, dredging or altering protected areas. Westford's Commission (opens in a new tab) also enforces the town's Wetlands Bylaw and reviews work within 100 feet of wetland resource areas and 200 feet of perennial streams. Mass.gov (opens in a new tab) advises contacting the commission before working within 100 feet of a wetland.

Scenic roads. Westford's scenic road page (opens in a new tab) says tree cutting and stone wall work in the right of way on designated roads needs a Planning Board hearing and approval. The state basis is MGL c.40 §15C (opens in a new tab).

Timber. The Forest Cutting Practices Act exempts (opens in a new tab) clearing land for building and owner cuts up to 25,000 board feet or 50 cords on a parcel at one time from its cutting-plan sections.

Utilities. Dig Safe (opens in a new tab) notice is required at least 72 hours before excavation, not counting weekends and holidays.

This is general guidance, not legal advice. Confirm with the Town of Westford for your parcel. We will point out anything on site that looks like a permit question.

How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Westford?

HomeGuide's 2026 national guide puts land clearing at $1,200 to $8,000 per acre, depending on lot size, terrain, access and how dense the vegetation is. Light clearing of shrubs and small trees is about $1,200 to $2,500 per acre, and heavy clearing with large trees and thick underbrush is about $4,500 to $8,000. These are national planning numbers, not our prices.

We quote each project after seeing the lot. For brush and saplings only, forestry mulching in Westford may fit better, and remaining stumps can be handled with stump grinding.

What changes the price here

  • Whether the parcel touches town conservation land or carries a restriction
  • Distance to wetlands, brooks and vernal pools
  • Tree size and how thick the underbrush is
  • Driveway length and how far trucks must reach into the lot
  • Stumps that have to come out for a foundation or drive
  • Scenic road frontage that needs Planning Board approval

Land Clearing in Westford: common questions

Does Westford require a permit to clear my lot?

Not for dry upland in most cases. The Conservation Commission reviews work within 100 feet of wetland resource areas and 200 feet of perennial streams, so a lot with a brook or wet area may need a filing. Check with the Commission before clearing if there is any water nearby.

My lot borders town conservation land. Can you clear up to the line?

We clear to your boundary and no farther. Westford manages more than 2,100 acres of conservation land, so share your survey or point out the markers before we start, and we will keep machines and debris on your side.

Can you cut a new driveway on Chamberlain Road or another scenic road?

The clearing is straightforward once the town side is settled. Cutting trees or altering stone walls in the right of way on a designated scenic road needs a Planning Board hearing, so contact the Planning Board before we cut the opening.

Can I sell the timber when you clear my lot?

You can within limits. Massachusetts exempts clearing land for building, and owner cuts up to 25,000 board feet or 50 cords on a parcel at one time, from the Forest Cutting Practices Act's cutting-plan sections. Larger commercial harvests have their own rules, so ask a forester.

What happens to the stumps and logs?

We haul logs and brush off site with our trucks and trailers. Stumps can be ground in place or pulled depending on what comes next, and we can match the plan to a house pad, a driveway or a lawn.
