Land Clearing in Fitchburg, MA
We clear overgrown lots, building sites and backyards with track loaders, a mini excavator, mulching heads and stump grinders, then leave the ground ready for its next use.

Land clearing covers a lot of ground, from opening up a backyard that the woods took back to preparing a building lot for a foundation crew. We plan each job around what comes next: a lawn needs stumps ground and soil graded, a driveway needs a clean path and a firm base, and a field or pasture needs brush cut down without stripping the topsoil.
From our Fitchburg base, we work across north central Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire with track loaders, a mini excavator, grapple and forestry mulching attachments, stump grinders and trailers to haul material out. Tell us what you want the land to become and we will recommend the least disruptive way to get there. Request a quote or call to walk the property with us.

How it works
Walk the property
We look at what you want removed, what stays, slopes, wet areas, access and where material can go.
Plan and quote
You get a scope that matches the end use: mulch in place, grind stumps, haul debris, grade or a mix.
Clear, grade and clean up
We clear in the order that protects what stays, then grade and leave the site ready for the next trade or for seed.
What affects the price
Every job is priced after we understand the site. These are the factors that move the number.
- Acreage and density
- A quarter acre of light brush and an acre of mixed hardwood are very different jobs.
- Tree size
- Saplings mulch quickly. Larger trees need cutting, handling and more stump work.
- Stumps
- Grinding stumps in place costs less than pulling them and hauling them away.
- Terrain
- Slopes, ledge, boulders and wet ground slow equipment and can change the method.
- What leaves the site
- Leaving mulch on site is the most economical. Hauling logs, brush and grindings adds trucking and disposal.
- Finish work
- Grading, loam and seed add cost but save you a second contractor.
Clearing, mulching or both?
Traditional clearing removes vegetation and stumps and hauls them away, which is the right choice for a foundation or driveway base. Forestry mulching grinds brush and small trees into a mulch layer that stays on the ground, which protects the soil and costs less when you are opening up woods, trails or fields. Many jobs use both: mulch the edges and grind or remove stumps where you will build.

Land Clearing questions
Do I need a permit to clear my land?
It depends on where the land is and how much you disturb. Work near wetlands, streams or lakes, cutting timber for sale and disturbing large areas can all require state or local approval. We point out permit questions during the site walk so you can check with the town before work starts.
How much does land clearing cost?
Cost depends on acreage, vegetation density, tree size, stumps, terrain and what has to be hauled away. For brush and small trees, our forestry mulching cost calculator gives a planning estimate. We confirm a firm price after seeing the lot.
Can you clear a lot without tearing up the ground?
Yes, when the end use allows it. Forestry mulching and tracked equipment keep soil disturbance low. For building pads and driveways, some soil disturbance is part of the job and we grade it back afterward.
What do you do with the trees and brush?
Brush and small trees can be mulched in place. Logs can be left for firewood or hauled away. Stumps are ground, and grindings can stay as mulch or leave on our trailer.
Do you do the grading after clearing?
Yes. We rough and finish grade cleared areas and can spread loam and seed so you end up with a usable yard instead of bare dirt.
