Forestry mulching clears brush and small trees by grinding them into a layer of mulch on the ground. In Goffstown we use track loaders with forestry mulcher heads for homeowners reclaiming an overgrown backyard, landowners opening fields, woods roads and trails, and builders who need to see a lot before they design it. Because the material stays on site as mulch, there are no brush piles to burn or haul.

Call (603) 438-6492 or use Get a Quote with the size of the area and a few photos. Goffstown remains part of our Southern New Hampshire service area. Learn more on our forestry mulching page.

Size limit: We can mulch hardwood up to 8 inches in diameter. Larger trees are cut first and the stumps ground separately.

Where Forestry Mulching Fits in Goffstown

Mulching leaves roots and soil in place, which matters in a town with this much river frontage, wetland buffer and hillside ground.

Buffers along the Piscataquog and Black Brook

Within 50 feet of protected water, state rules keep natural ground cover and stumps in place, and Goffstown's 100-foot wetland buffer restricts vegetation removal. Mulching doesn't get around those rules, so we map buffers first and keep the machine out of areas where cutting isn't allowed.

Old fields grown in with invasive shrubs

Glossy buckthorn, Oriental bittersweet and multiflora rose are on New Hampshire's prohibited invasive plant list, which bars moving or transplanting living plant parts. Mulching these thickets where they stand avoids hauling viable pieces off the property, though they resprout and need follow-up.

Hillside ground

On sloped lots near the Uncanoonucs, a mulcher cuts brush at the surface and leaves the root mat to hold the soil, which disturbs far less ground than pulling stumps. Steep pitches still limit where a track machine can work safely.

Trails, woods roads and field edges

Rural properties and the edges of the Goffstown Rail Trail corridor have paths and field margins that fill in quickly. A mulcher can reopen a path or field edge and leave a mulch surface that is easy to walk.

Rules That Affect Mulching Near Water and Slopes

Shoreland buffers. Within 50 feet of a protected waterbody, natural ground cover stays intact except for a 6-foot-wide path to the water, shrubs can be trimmed to no less than 3 feet, and stumps and roots stay in the ground. Between 50 and 150 feet, at least 25 percent of the area must stay natural woodland (NHDES summary (opens in a new tab); RSA 483-B:9 (opens in a new tab)). The Piscataquog through Goffstown is a designated river (RSA 483:15 (opens in a new tab)).

Town wetland buffer. Goffstown's Wetland and Surface Water Conservation District adds a 100-foot buffer around wetlands and surface water where vegetation removal is restricted. Forestry and nature trails are among the uses the ordinance allows there, with conditions (Zoning Ordinance, Section 13.3 (opens in a new tab); Town of Goffstown FAQ (opens in a new tab)). Check with Planning and Zoning before mulching near wet areas.

Slopes. Large projects, or work on slopes of 25 percent or steeper within 50 feet of surface water, can require an NHDES Alteration of Terrain permit (NHDES (opens in a new tab)).

Invasive plants. New Hampshire prohibits moving or transplanting living parts of listed invasive species (Agr 3800 (opens in a new tab)).

This is general guidance, not legal advice. We help you spot when a permit question exists so you can confirm it with the town or NHDES before work starts.

How Much Does Forestry Mulching Cost in Goffstown?

We quote forestry mulching per site rather than publishing set prices. For planning, HomeGuide reports forestry mulching at about $125 to $300 per hour, $1,000 to $2,500 per day, or $400 to $800 per acre on average (HomeGuide (opens in a new tab)). These are national reference ranges, not our prices. Dense invasive brush, slopes and buffer areas in Goffstown can move a job well beyond the low end.

What changes the price here

  • Brush density and stem size, from light saplings to thick buckthorn
  • Slope and soft ground near the river
  • Buffer areas that have to be left alone or worked around
  • Track loader access from the road to the work area
  • Whether stumps are left at grade or ground lower for mowing
  • Follow-up passes for invasive resprouts

Forestry Mulching in Goffstown: common questions

How is forestry mulching different from land clearing?

A forestry mulcher grinds standing brush and small trees into mulch and leaves it on the ground. Land clearing usually removes trees and stumps and hauls debris away to make room for building. If you plan to build, see our land clearing in Goffstown page.

Can you mulch near the Piscataquog River or a wetland?

Only within the limits the rules allow. The first 50 feet from protected water keeps its natural ground cover, and Goffstown's 100-foot wetland buffer restricts vegetation removal. We keep the machine out of those areas unless the town or state has approved the work.

Will mulching get rid of buckthorn and bittersweet?

It knocks them down and clears the tangle, but these shrubs resprout from their roots. Plan on a follow-up mulching pass over the next season or two. Mulching in place also avoids moving living plant parts, which state rules prohibit for listed invasives.

What does the ground look like after mulching?

You get a layer of shredded wood over the soil, with stumps cut near ground level. The mulch settles and breaks down over time, and grass or a field mix can be seeded as it does. If you plan to mow, we can grind stumps lower.

Can you mulch on a steep lot?

Tracked machines handle moderate slopes well, and mulching leaves roots in place to hold the soil. On very steep ground, especially near water, some areas may need to stay uncut. Photos and a site walk help us plan the safest approach.
