We use track loaders with forestry mulcher heads to turn brush, saplings and small trees into mulch where they stand. In Nashua that works well for overgrown back lots, fence lines, commercial lot edges and paths, since there is no burning and little hauling.

Size limit: We can mulch hardwood up to 8 inches in diameter. Larger trees are cut first and the stumps ground separately.

Where Forestry Mulching Fits in Nashua

The city's open ground is mostly lot edges, back acreage and land near water, which is why a low-disturbance method often makes sense here.

Buffers along rivers and brooks

Much of Nashua's remaining brush sits near the Merrimack River, Nashua River, Salmon Brook and wetlands. Mulching leaves stumps and roots in the ground and a mulch layer on the soil, which matches what shoreland rules expect near water. Work inside a city wetland buffer still needs review first.

Overgrown edges next to homes

Brush often grows right up to fences, sheds and back lot lines. A mulcher can clear close to these edges, and we keep the work zone tight so mulch does not land on neighboring yards.

Invasive shrubs on lot edges

Thick shrubby growth along edges and old fields comes back from the roots. Mulching clears it fast, but plan on follow-up mowing or mulching, since one pass will not stop regrowth.

Commercial and multifamily lots

Property managers often need to cut back brush around parking areas, drainage swales and lot edges. Mulching leaves a clean finish without a pile of debris to haul.

Shoreland and Wetland Rules for Mulching in Nashua

Mulching does not dig up the ground, but location still matters.

Protected shoreland. Protected shoreland covers land within 250 feet of public waters, including rivers of fourth order or higher (RSA 483-B:4 (opens in a new tab)). In the 50-foot waterfront buffer, stumps and roots must stay intact and vegetation removal is limited (RSA 483-B:9 (opens in a new tab)).

City wetland buffers. Nashua reviews uses and activities inside wetland buffers and can require replacement of trees removed from them without approval (Land Use Code 190-112 (opens in a new tab)). The code also notes that removing invasive species can be an appropriate mitigation step.

State wetlands. Removing or filling material in wetlands and banks needs a state permit (RSA 482-A:3 (opens in a new tab)).

If the area is near water or a wet spot, check with Nashua's planning office before work. We will flag it if we see a buffer question, but this is not legal advice.

How Much Does Forestry Mulching Cost in Nashua?

HomeGuide (opens in a new tab) lists national forestry mulching averages of about $400 to $800 per acre, up to about $2,000 per acre for dense overgrowth, or roughly $125 to $300 per machine hour. It also notes minimum fees and mobilization charges are common. These are national reference ranges, not our prices. Our forestry mulching cost calculator gives a planning estimate in a minute, and we confirm the number after seeing the site.

What changes the price here

  • Density of brush and the size of the largest trees
  • Buffer lines that shrink the workable area
  • How close the work is to fences, sheds and neighboring yards
  • Whether you want a fine finish or a rougher first pass
  • Mobilization for a small area versus a full day of work

Forestry Mulching in Nashua: common questions

Can you mulch brush near the Nashua River or a brook?

Sometimes, within limits. State shoreland rules restrict vegetation removal near protected rivers, and the city reviews work in wetland buffers. Check with the city first and we will plan the work around what is allowed.

Will mulching get rid of invasive shrubs for good?

Not in one pass. Mulching clears the top growth quickly, but many invasive shrubs regrow from the roots. Plan on follow-up mowing or a second mulching visit.

What is left on the ground afterward?

A layer of shredded wood mulch. It protects the soil and breaks down over time. Stumps from small trees are ground near the surface, not pulled out.

Can you clear brush behind a commercial building or parking lot?

Yes. Mulching works well for lot edges, drainage areas and overgrown strips around commercial sites, and it leaves no debris pile to haul.
